Happy Teacher's Day !

With all the mood for Teacher's Day, I feel like writing. As I am sitting alone in my hotel room (since today is Friday and I basically have no plans), I got into thinking...

Shouldn't Teacher's Day be celebrated not only to those who opt teaching as their professions, but also to someone who cares to share his/her knowledge to another human being?

In that case, I personally feel that I owe a lot to a lot of people who taught me all that I know now, made me who I am today, and people who are responsible for all the goodness in me.

Having said that, I am going to make a "short" list of "thank yous" to people who are responsible of moulding me, into ME of today.

1. My teachers from MGS.

I literally mean ALL. Sure they gave me all these knowledge on maths, science, history and all those long lists of subjects I think I passed on quite moderately. But let me tell you something about my days in MGS.

I had a teacher once who was so particular on the type of glue you use to paste notes in your notebook. Use only glue stick she used to say. Those wet glues are gonna leave your book messy. I had another teacher who cares so much about the condition of the book that you basically cannot fold your book while writing and were advised to put another book underneath for easier writing. I had lots of teachers who used to grade our homework with A's B's and C's. I got B's and C's even when I managed to solve those problems just because I missed writing on dates or I forgot to underline something.

You see, the compliments I got when I started college life :
"Kemasnya kerja kau. Kemasnya nota kau"

And I've got all my teachers to thank. The fact that I take everything seriously when I do something no matter how small the task is comes from the early education I got when I was in school.

2. Pn Yap

She may not remember me. I do very much remember her. Let me recite the story for you.

I was in Primary One. Still new, blur, and shy. During a test, I vaguely remember which subject or what kind of questions were there, but what I do remember is that I have to finish something and then only proceed to colouring pictures. I've finished answering, but I didn't know what to do next. Then, I heard the girl behind me raised up her hand and asked the teacher. So I looked behind to see what she was doing, and I got scolded. Never since that incident I cheat in any examinations, up until I finished my degree.

There was an attempt once, during Statistics test. My colleague and I wrote up formulas at some pages of the statistical table book, but I ended up not referring. Probably guilty conscience, I felt invigilators were watching me all the time.

Oh, but one whole class were permitted to discuss during one test during my diploma years. So well, that doesn't really count. Hihi.

3. Pn Hasnah & Pn Tengku Hasnah

By now I supposed everyone knows I've debated for a while during high school. Back then, I was doubting whether or not I can achieve my dream. The dream really did seem so far away and unreachable. But these two teachers trusted me and opened the door for me. It was such a wonderful experience when your dream comes true!

So they moulded me and my friends into confident creatures. Now, I feel that I can speak in front of any size of audience. Sure my stomach's gonna sink in and my heart will be pounding like hell, but they taught me that with proper preparation, I can do it all.

4. Pn Zuraini Dahlan

She taught me Algebra for one semester. It wasn't really Algebra I care to elaborate here. Back then, when I felt like I can no longer do it, or withstand the current condition, she was there to motivate me. Though indirectly, she was part of the reason I can survive those three years with the boys. I still remember getting a present from her, and I still keep the book :)

5. Dr Astuty

She wasn't really my favourite lecturer to begin with. But after a while sitting in her class, listening to her experience, and the fact that she too was the only girl in class, made me felt so refreshed. I got into thinking "If this lecturer managed to succeed and gain respect from men in her area of expertise, I can do it too" And so here I am chasing my dreams, remembering her motivational stories and believing that I can do it. She taught me that you can achieve just about anything you want, for a price to pay, if you're willing to pay for it of course :)

6. My friends

Believe it or not, I learned a lot from my friends. But never do any of them realised this.
I have my own online shop in which I started off years ago. Know who was responsible for inspiring me? None other than Ainee Joe ! I adore her persistence. I admire her ideas. Hence, born Oh!MissRhapsody.

You know when you're on the edge of falling, when you feel useless? I am lucky I have friends who bothered to bring me up again. Too many to list down, I am sure you know who you are.

I am not a patient young lady. But I see patience in my friend, junior actually. How she managed to stand on her two feet, being so mature so fast, taking huge responsibilities at an age where I am still dependent of my parents, really struck me hard. I have a good life, but I failed to appreciate it. Well, she taught me to be grateful and that's a worthy lesson.

Shafeek Ahmad is a friend who you can count on just about anything. He'll give you his time, even when he has no time at all. He'll share knowledge with you, even do the research with you, though he has nothing to benefit from it except a cheap meal that he himself can afford. Thank you for teaching me the value of friendship and selfless acts. May Allah grant you all your wishes :)

I wasn't a hijabi. I started off when I was 18. It was quite a tough time keeping it on. But I had a few role models in mind. Min and Najwa. Seeing how they managed to be super persistent and that hijab has never stopped them from doing things that they like, I admired them. And I slowly started to follow their footsteps.

Sure there are many other things I've learned from people I've met all my life. I don't see the necessity of listing all my life learned lessons. But the point of this entry is not to brag on my positive values but in hope to open up eyes that teachers are not only restricted to those who are in the teaching industry, but everyone else who have taught you a little something along the way. So I suggest all of us to open our eyes, look closely at people around us, and identify what values have they taught us. I am pretty convinced that we all learn at least one thing from each person we know.

To all that contribute to mould a Nur Izzati Mohd Fidzrus, I bid all of you...

HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY ! :D
