I just have to update the blog tonight. Like really really have to. After watching the match between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan, and watching at how close it was Malaysia to its first Olympic Gold Medal ever, I have to blog about it.
I know very well that the hero himself will never come across this post. But, I would like to express a big gratitude to him for putting up a very very good game. One that was almost the best I have seen between himself and Lin Dan. It is rare to see such spirit, even in any sporting events and this is something that all of us can learn from. Tonight, LCW fought to the very end. The last time I saw such spirit was in the World Cup, I couldn't remember which year. The one where Koreans were left behind by a couple of points, but they fought hard until the very end, which resulted in them winning fourth that year. (as far as I can remember, but I might get some facts wrong) .
Seeing the posts on facebook, where people screen grabbed Chong Wei's latest tweet makes me feel touched. The man did NOTHING WRONG, yet he apologised. Perhaps he felt that he has disappoints us all. However, he might not noticed that he has touched miliions of hearts tonight, getting us to remember what is it like to be patriotic once again. You've shown us all that, and that alone is tonnes more precious that any gold medal.
Seeing how all Malaysians were united for that thrilling game, makes me feel that no loss is gained tonight. In fact we won. Big time! It is hard enough to see us Malaysians to be this united, especially at this crucial time when PRU is about to happen, but he gave us that. So cherish that, and please do not feel so sad over one scoop of BR ice - cream that you can buy for RM7. Seriously, if one is hoping too much for that free ice-cream, I supposed all the positive effects of the game will never be seen by the irises of your eyes. Baskin Robbins will always be there. But such patriotism is rare. Such unity can only be seen once in a blue moon.
So put all heads up, we never lost. Let Lin Dan keep his gold medals, and we cherish our heroes who have fought hard, who have trained and drained in sweats to get Jalur Gemilang on the London's soil. and perhaps Baskin Robbins should give Lee Chong Wei a grand welcoming later in KLIA for having to make all Malaysians proud. If there is are at any accounts a group of people who actually deserve ice cream scoops, they are the Malaysia's contingent. Not us supporters. Thank you athletes for reminding me once again on patriotism, and that is more than any medals can do. :)
Sincerely with huge thanks,
A Proud Malaysia. More than ever.
