Pernah dengar kan? Selalu dengar kan?

Dulu, masa arwah nenek selalu cakap..memang suka sangat nak bantah. My reason was, "Belajar tinggi-tinggi nanti dapat keje gaji banyak, tak payah masuk dapur,beli je. Tak pun ambik maid sorang, suruh maid je masak. Apa nak susah."

Well, that was my opinion when I was 12-14 years old or so. But now... When I am 19 (heyy, only 3 days left before I am leaving my teenage years, have to use properly,lol) I am starting to think that what my grandmother used to say was unbelievably RIGHT!

Okay, I don't know much about other races culture, so I am going to speak mainly based on my own race - Malay. For us malays, especially Muslims, it is mandatory that when you get married to a guy, you have to take care of his needs, which includes his food, his clothes, everything!

So, yeah. When a high educated woman gets married, she HAS to cook! Like it or not, know it or not, she HAS to. Memang lah ada jenis husband yang tak kisah nak makan luar and everything, tapi... mesti sekali dua, dia kena masak jugak, kena masuk dapur jugakk.

Tu untuk yang dah kahwin. Yang belum kahwin, takkan kalau balik rumah cuti, duduk melenggang je kan? Mesti balik rumah, kena tolong mak, and etc. Sungguh kejam nak biarkan mak buat everything on her own right? So see? Sapa kata kalau belajar tinggi-tinggi tak payah nak masuk dapur? Takkan kalau gaji berpuluh ribu, hari-hari nak makan lauk kedai? Saya sendiri pun jemu nak makan lauk kedai hari-hari. Plus, kebersihan belum tentu terjamin, compared with masak dekat rumah.

Perceptions change when you grow older, perhaps as one grows older, the perceptions become more mature. But you see, I am beginning to realise that apart from this engineering knowledge I'm after to, I still need to learn how to cook. Imagine that, I know how to calculate the flow rate in an air-conditioning system, something that not many of our women ancestors know how to, but deep down...I am forgetting about what my ancestors had known to do.

I may know how to weld, but I certainly don't know how to cook "masak lemak cili api". In which, I know I should know.

So, what I am trying to say, after this long winding post is...

"Perempuan kalau belajar tinggi mana pun, keje gaji banyak mana pun, kena masuk dapur jugakk". And hell yeah, after this kena belajar masak sampai master kat dapur. :P
